Background of the Study

The increasing adoption of cloud-based systems has transformed human resource management by enhancing efficiency, reducing operational costs, and improving decision-making. Cloud-based HR systems provide businesses with tools for managing talent acquisition, performance evaluation, and employee engagement in a seamless, centralized manner.

In Nigeria, businesses in Kebbi State, like other regions, face challenges in managing talent due to resource constraints, high employee turnover, and limited access to advanced technologies. According to Ojo and Bassey (2023), cloud-based HR systems enable organizations to streamline HR processes and enhance talent management strategies. Despite these advantages, adoption in Kebbi State remains limited, with many businesses relying on traditional methods that hinder their ability to attract, retain, and develop top talent. This study explores the role of cloud-based HR systems in addressing these challenges and fostering effective talent management practices in Kebbi State.

Statement of the Problem

Effective talent management is crucial for organizational success, yet many businesses in Kebbi State struggle to implement modern HR practices due to limited technological adoption. While cloud-based HR systems offer solutions to these challenges, their adoption remains constrained by factors such as cost, technical expertise, and resistance to change.

Research by Akinyemi and Hassan (2025) indicates that cloud-based HR systems significantly improve talent management in organizations by enabling real-time data access, automated processes, and enhanced collaboration. However, the extent to which these systems have been adopted and their effectiveness in Kebbi State businesses is yet to be fully explored. This study seeks to address this gap by assessing the role of cloud-based HR systems in talent management.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the adoption level of cloud-based HR systems among businesses in Kebbi State.

  2. To evaluate the impact of cloud-based HR systems on talent management practices.

  3. To identify barriers to the adoption of cloud-based HR systems and propose solutions.

Research Questions

  1. What is the level of adoption of cloud-based HR systems among businesses in Kebbi State?

  2. How do cloud-based HR systems impact talent management practices?

  3. What barriers hinder the adoption of cloud-based HR systems, and how can they be addressed?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Cloud-based HR systems are not significantly adopted by businesses in Kebbi State.

  2. Cloud-based HR systems do not significantly impact talent management practices.

  3. Barriers to adoption do not significantly affect the implementation of cloud-based HR systems.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study focuses on businesses in Kebbi State, analyzing their adoption of cloud-based HR systems and their impact on talent management. Limitations include potential bias in survey responses and challenges in obtaining accurate data due to limited technological literacy.
